I Wish I was Sailing Again

I think about Paris when I’m high on red wine, I wish I could jump on a plane. And so many nights I just dream of the ocean. God, I wish I was sailing again.

~ Jimmy Buffett

Not familiar with Jimmy Buffett? He is a popular U.S. singer songwriter famous for his ability to help his fans escape to a tropical world of beaches and cool breezes. His music can bring you back to a favorite vacation moment or to the sound of the water lapping against your sailboat on the coldest and grayest of days.  He has a loyal fan club known as Parrotheads, a group of fun partyers who work too hard and listen to Buffet as a way to wind down. His most popular songs include “Margaritaville,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “A Pirate Looks at Forty,” and my personal favorite, “Come Monday.”

    1. You’re right, it was so still there was barely a ripple. Once you navigate the channel into the San Francisco Bay, I think it would be time to set the main sail!
Thanks, hope your weekend is good!

  1. Jimmy is someone that can make a poor day at work get a lot better by activating our imaginations. Also all of his music–just makes me happy. I can get lost in your photo, thinking about living on the water. Thank you for that image to lead me into the week-end. You have a great one as well. -Max-

    1. Ah, you’ve captured the essence of listening to Buffett in the summertime. Do you know that somehow, reading the lyrics to “Changes in Latitude” inspired me to FINALLY read Moby Dick. Not an easy read, but definitely for ocean lovers!
      Thanks, Max!

  2. Oh! Oh! Oh! Take me with you, or just set me down in that marina. I don’t mind which. Stunning shot, Elisa! I’m spellbound. And I’d never heard of Jimmy Buffett, but I like the sound of him.

    1. Ha, thanks, Jo! And I’m certain that SOMEWHERE along the way, you’ve heard the tropical sound of Jimmy Buffett…you probably just didn’t know it. I was going to send you a youtube video, but they always have those darned ads. If I find an ad-free version, I’m going to send you the link. ONE THING, you have to be drinking a Margarita when you listen to it! 🙂

  4. Reblogged this on Teacher as Transformer and commented:
When I was working in banking many years ago, we were doing home renovations. I would work in the basement and have Jimmy Buffett on listening to his “pirate music.” I got a lot done and the music always helped me get where I wanted to go in my work. It reminded me it was OK to have dreams and be a pirate at times.

    1. Buffett has a way of awakening the inner bohemian beach bum in all of us, doesn’t he? To be him for a day would make me very happy, I think. Thanks for the reblog, Ivon. And cheers!

    1. You’ve been missed, Susan! And yes, I spent quite a bit of time in your home state that I refer to as, “the state layered deeply with vast riches of natural beauty!” Our daughter just completed her Freshman year at USC, so it was nice to have an excuse to head to the west coast. I’m always scheming to move out there’re somehow, but I think Atlanta will always be home. Take care, Susan, it was so very nice to hear from you!

  7. After our year on the road, we are thinking abut a year on the ocean. We have a lot of research and a lot of sea worthy training to go, but can you tell us what it is about sailing that it so amazing??

    1. I grew up in Maryland, near the Chesapeake Bay, where boating is a way of life. Power boating is fun and bursting with excitement, but sailing is pure and true to the sea…and blissfully quiet. I admire your dream of a year at sea, but I recommend that you watch the Robert Redford move, “All is Lost” before making that attempt! I love your wanderlust and sense of adventure. Good luck…and keep having fun!
